Legacy of Amon
Millennia passed, and society adapted to its new situation. The nations of the world learned to cope with the lack of easy travel and communication, some mechanical engineering developed, and organizations arose to handle the problems of the new world. Orders of warriors sworn to protect travels arose, craftsman guilds formed, and governments did their best to facilitate trade. While life is by no means what it was prior to the loss of magic, it is a far cry from the terrible days after the great war. Moreover, the repercussions of the war left such scars that peoples from most of the world abhorred the of another war. Only Lagon, with its traditionally militaristic oligarchy, even attempted such aggression, and when every nation of the world, time and again, aligned against them when they positioned to attack, even Lagon soon gave up overt attempts at aggression, instead focusing more on diplomatic attacks rather than military ones.
This is the time the characters find themselves in. Working as a attache for the high arcanist of their country, they have had more exposure to magic than the vast majority of people. Still, it is foreign to them, known at best through study of texts rather than through practice.
